LCC Moves to 8-1 with Big Home Win

LONGVIEW, Wash. — The Lower Columbia College Red Devils showcased a masterclass in offensive efficiency and balance on Saturday afternoon, placing six players in double figures to defeat the Whatcom Orcas 91-70 at Myklebust Gymnasium.

With the victory, the Red Devils improve to an impressive 8-1 on the season.

The LCC offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting a blistering 56.3 percent (36-of-64) from the field. The Devils dominated the interior, outscoring Whatcom 48-24 in the paint, while also utilizing their defense to generate offense by forcing 14 turnovers and converting them into 18 points.

James Grose paced the balanced scoring attack with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Chance White followed closely behind with 16 points, including three makes from beyond the arc.

The Red Devils received stellar all-around performances from their playmakers. Skyler Schmidt filled the stat sheet with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Shane Douma-Sanchez was equally effective, tallying 14 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

Efficiency was the theme of the afternoon, highlighted by Noah Schow, who was perfect from the floor. Schow went 5-for-5 to finish with 12 points. Off the bench, K Jackman-Thomas provided a physical spark, adding 11 points and pulling down six rebounds.

While the offense grabbed the headlines, Cole Chester anchored the perimeter defense. Chester harassed the Orcas' ball handlers all afternoon, recording a game-high five steals while also dishing out five assists.

Whatcom (3-10) managed to keep the game competitive in the first half, trailing 46-37 at the break behind 21 points from Khalil Graham. However, the Red Devils' depth and relentless pressure wore the visitors down in the second half. LCC extended their lead to as many as 24 points late in the game, cruising to the 21-point victory.

Next up for the Devils is a doubleheader road game vs the Clark Penguins on Thursday, December 18, LCC Women will tip at 5:30 pm and the men will follow at 7:30 pm.
