LONGVIEW, WA – The Lower Columbia College volleyball team put on a commanding performance in front of their home crowd Wednesday night, sweeping the Green River Gators 3-0 in a decisive NWAC West Region victory at Myklebust Gymnasium.
The Red Devils won with set scores of 25-23, 25-15, and 25-13.
After a hard-fought opening set where the teams traded points, the Red Devils found their rhythm and took complete control of the match. LCC pulled away decisively in the second set and capped off the evening with an absolutely dominant third set. In the final frame, the Red Devils' offense was flawless, tallying 12 kills with zero attack errors for an incredible .364 hitting percentage to close out the sweep.
The offense was powered by a balanced attack, with outside hitters Irene Martinez and Kendall Humphrey leading the team with 8 kills apiece. Setter Karissa Otterstetter orchestrated the offense brilliantly, dishing out 24 assists while also contributing 4 kills on an efficient .308 hitting percentage.
LCC's defense was just as impressive. The Red Devils controlled the net, finishing with 7 total team blocks. Claire Neuman was a force, recording 4 total blocks (1 solo, 3 assists), while Chesney Schultz added 3 of her own (2 solo, 1 assist). In the back row, libero Lillian Halberg anchored the defense with a match-high 11 digs.
The victory improves the Red Devils' record to 2-1 in conference play (6-8 overall) as they continue their push in the West Region standings.
Devils will head north to the Pierce College Fort Steilacoom Campus in Lakewood, WA on Friday, October 3rd, for a 7:00 pm match vs the Pierce Raiders.
