(Auburn, WA) The Lower Columbia Red Devils fell short in a closely contested match up against the Green River Gators, losing 56-53 at Green River College. Despite leading by as many as 18 points in the first half, the Red Devils struggled offensively in the second half, scoring just 19 points after halftime. Their shooting struggles were evident, as they shot 41.8% from the field (23-55), just 23.8% from three-point range (5-21), and an uncharacteristic 50% from the free-throw line (2-4). They finished with 34 total rebounds, including 11 offensive boards, along with 11 assists, five blocks, and seven steals. The team also committed 14 turnovers and 16 fouls, which proved costly down the stretch.
Malik Brown led Lower Columbia in scoring with 14 points on 5-12 shooting, including 2-6 from three-point range. He also contributed seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal but struggled with five turnovers.
Kap Laila was efficient inside, scoring 12 points on 6-11 shooting while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out two assists.
David Young added eight points, seven rebounds, and three steals, hitting two three-pointers but struggling with overall efficiency at 3-10 from the field.
Javares Reid provided a defensive presence with three blocks and six points, while Keshawn Lewis added seven points and two assists.
Green River mounted a strong second-half comeback behind the dominant performance of Jayden Wright, who led all scorers with 21 points. He shot 10-18 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds while also recording an assist and a steal. Logan Weidauer posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, along with two steals. Green River took advantage of Lower Columbia's offensive struggles, outscoring the Red Devils 36-19 in the second half and securing the win with strong late-game execution.
The Red Devils' inability to maintain their first-half lead, combined with their struggles from the perimeter and free-throw line, ultimately led to their second conference loss.
