Close Losses At CBC Tournament

(Pasco, WA) – The Lower Columbia College volleyball team went 1-3 at the Coach G Memorial volleyball tournament hosted by Columbia Basin College.
 
The three losses were all five set affairs that could have gone the other way.
 
Friday August 30th
 
Whatcom 3 Lower Columbia 2
 
The back-and-forth match featured close, intense competition.  The set scores were 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-27 and 12-15.
 
Kenny Collins led the way with 14 kills and 32 digs.  Samantha Farland also had a big match with 13 kills.
 
Libero Madi Noel had 25 digs. Setter Allison Orantes had 21 assists.
 
Lower Columbia 3 Umpqua 1
 
The Devils lost the opening set 19-25 but came back to take three straight 25-23, 25-23 and 25-16.

Farland was again outstanding with 17 kills.  Noel had 26 digs.  Orantes had 18 assists and Charissa Schierman contributed 12 assists.
 
Saturday August 31
Columbia Basin 3 Lower Columbia 2

The Devils played well against the host CBC team. It was a match where a point here or there could have changed the outcome.

CBC won the first set 21-25.  LCC came back for a 25-19 set two win.  CBC countered by taking the third set 22-25.  The Devils sent in to a deciding set with a 25-21 victory in set four.  The Hawks then dominated the fifth set 15-6 to take the win.

Collins filled the boxscore with 20 kills and 18 digs.  Farland put away 19 kills and added 14 digs.

Noel kept the opportunities flowing with 34 digs.  Delaney Fortelney had seven kills and nine digs.

Schierman had 28 assists and Orantes added 19.
 
Mt. Hood 3 Lower Columbia 2
The Devils lost the first two sets but came back with two of their own to send it to a fifth set.  The Saints outlasted LCC 13-15 in the decider.

Individual stats for Lower Columbia will be posted later.
 
The Devils will have three non-region matches this week.  LCC hosts Bellevue for a 6 pm match on Wednesday September 4th.  LCC makes the short trip to Vancouver to play Clark in a 6 pm match on Friday September 6th.  The Devils head to Shoreline for a 7 pm match on Saturday
September 7th.
