(Gresham, OR) – The Lower Columbia volleyball team completed its non-division schedule by playing six matches in four days. The team will rest up for the league opener on Friday September 20
th against Centralia.
The Devils went 1-3 at the NWAC Cross Over hosted by Mt. Hood. They played four tough squads after hosting Skagit Valley and defending champion Linn Benton last week.
Friday September 13th
COLUMBIA BASIN 3 LOWER COLUMBIA 0
The Devils had a tough time at the net as they could muster just a -.070 kill percentage. The Hawks won the sets 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21.
Samantha Farland had nine kills and 11 digs.
Kenny Collins had eight kills and 14 digs.
Madi Noel led LCC with 16 digs.
Charissa Schierman had 10 assists.
WHATCOM 0 LOWER COLUMBIA 3
The first two sets could have gone either way. The Devil won 25-23, 25-21 and 25-15.
Farland had 13 kills and 14 digs. Collins provided eight kills and 15 digs. Noel had 20 digs against the Saints.
Allison Orantes had 12 assists and seven digs.
Saturday September 14th
ROGUE 3 LOWER COLUMBIA 2
The Devils ran out of gas in the deciding set after an epic back-and forth battle with the Ospreys. LCC won the first set 25-21 but Rogue came back to take set two 26-24 and set three 25-22. LCC kept the match alive with a 29-27 thriller in set four. Rogue then took control and won the match 15-9 in the decider.
Noel had 41 digs to keep the Devils in the match. Collins had 13 kills and 30 digs. Collins killed 11 and dug 14. Orantes had 14 assists.
YAKIMA VALLEY 3 LOWER COLUMBIA 0
The Yaks took control and won the match 25-23, 25-19 and 25-20.
Farland had eight kills. Noel had 12 digs.
LCC did not shy away from the best competition as they played many of the top teams in the NWAC during the non-league schedule. LCC takes a 4-10 record into league play. They host the Centralia Blazers in the West Region opener on Friday September 20
th. The match begins at 6 pm at Myklebust Gymnasium.
