Devils Drop League Opener

(Longview, WA) – In front a large, electric crowd the Centralia Trail Blazers got the big points when they needed it in a 3-1 victory over Lower Columbia in the West Region opener on Friday September 20th at Myklebust Gym.

The match may have turned in a great first set showdown.  LCC had two set-points in the first set but couldn't complete it.  The Blazers closed strong and won 27-25.  The Blazers used the momentum to win the second set 25-19.  LCC came back to dominate the third set 25-14.  But in the end Centralia quieted the crowd with a 25-17 match clinching victory in the fourth set.

There were plenty of fellow LCC student/athletes who were cheering for the LCC volleyball team.  But give Centralia credit for playing through the noise and coming away with the victory. Paige Miller led Centralia with 19 kills and 13 digs.

The Devils were led by the 15 kills each from Samantha Farland and Kenny Collins.  Collins also had 16 digs.

Madi Noel led LCC with 20 digs.  The LCC setter duo of Allison Orantes (18 assists) and Charissa Schierman (14 assists) set up the attack.

Morgan Garrison had 7 kills.

LCC had just one block on the night (Collins).  Centralia also had just one block as the net attack on each side was solid.  The Devils kill percentage was .228 and the Blazers was .221.

The Devils have another tough one at home on Wednesday September 25th when the 18-1 Highline Thunderbirds come to Myklebust Gym for a 6 pm match.  Highline is 2-0 in league play after a 3-0 sweep over Pierce.
