Devils Win streak ends at 17

(Oregon City, OR) Lower Columbia's win streak was extended to 17 but that would be it, as the Devils split the day with the Clackamas Cougars on Thursday, May 2. 

Game One - Lower Columbia 8 Clackamas 0 (5 innings)

The Devils came out swinging, starting the day with a Leanna Russel double, Sawyer Stenson single, and then Raychel Squibb stepped up to plate to promptly knock out a 3 run home run. 

After 3 quiet innings the Devils put up 2 more runs in the 4th. Brooklyn Loose got it started with a double that hit the fence. Joelie Eder move loose over with a single. Then with 2 outs, Lexi Grumbois roped a single past the short stop to score Loose. Leanna Russell then hit an rbi single to score Eder, to make it 5-0 Red Devils.

Bella Aspaas then step up to the plate in the 5th and hit a monster solo home run. Stenson then scored a double into right field scoring Loose who had walked. Ella Dillon then hit a single to score Stenson giving the Devils an 8-0 lead. 

The Devils defense closed it out with the cougars going 3 up, 3 down to end the game.   
 
Teeghan Reams was outstanding in the circle for the Red Devils in game one. Reams pitched a complete game, allowing only 1 hit with 5 strike outs, and 1 walk.  

Grumbois was 3 for 4 at the plate, with an rbi and a double

Russell went 2 for 4, with an rbi and a double.

Bella Aspaas was 2 for 3, with a HR

Squibb went 1 for 3, with a HR

Reams and Loose both had doubles. 

Game Two - Lower Columbia 6 Clackamas 7

Game two found the Devils behind 1-2 after the first inning thanks to a Clackamas 2 run home run. 

Devils struggled a bit to get some offense going with tow ground outs and a pop fly in the 2nd. Clackamas added another run in the 2nd on a LCC error to make it 1-3 Clackamas through two innings. 

The Devils took advantage of a Cougars error to plate a run in the 3rd and held CCC scoreless. 

Top of the 4th, Bella Aspaas singles, Loose with the SAC bunt to advance Aspaas. Then Kaydence Mackin knocks out a 2 run home run to put the Devils up 4-3.  

Top of the 5th. Grumbois singles, Russell SAC bunt advances Grumbois. Sawyer Stenson steps up to the plate and hits an absolute bomb over the second set of fencing in left field to put the Red Devils up 6-3. 
Clackamas then makes a pitching change and shuts down the rest of the Devils batter. 

Bottom if the 5th. Clackamas' first batter walks, second hitter singles. Third walks, fourth reaches on an error scoring a run. Devils pitching change. Fifth Cougar batter is hit by a pitch advancing all runners and plating another run. 
Next batter for the Cougars grounds out to third but scores another run. 7th batter grounds out to the pitcher, scoring another run. Final batter strikes out but eh damage is done as the Cougars put up 4 runs to make it 6-7 Clackamas. 

That would prove to be enough as both teams defense held strong for the 6th and 7th innings. 

Grumbois was 3 for 3, with a 2B and walk
Aspaas was 2 for 4
Russell was 1 for 3, with a 2B
Stenson went 1 for 4, with a HR and 3 rbi's
Mackin went 1 for 3, with a HR and 2 rbi's

Sadie Knutson was credited with the loss, going 4.0 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 walks
Alli Heater threw 2 innings of relief with 2 strike outs, 0 hits.


Lower Columbia has four games left in the regular season, at home vs the Mt Hood Saints and on the road vs the Southwestern Oregon Lakers. 

The final home game vs Mt Hood was scheduled for Saturday, May 4, but due to the forecasted weather conditions the games have been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 8th at 3:00 pm.
