(Kelso, WA) – The Lower Columbia College softball team snapped a nine game losing streak to Clackamas and did it emphatically.
The Devils came up with two eight-run mercy rule victories, 17-9 and 12-2.
Game One- Lower Columbia 17 Clackamas 9
LCC was down 7-5 heading into the bottom of the 4
th when they unloaded for five runs to take the lead and then added six more in the 5
th to blow it open.
The game ended early when
Leanna Russell spanked a bases loaded double. She was credited with just an RBI single as the game ended when the lead runner crossed the plate.
The Devils had six home runs in the game.
Sawyer Stenson hit two, Allison Baumgardt also hit a pair,
Teeghan Reams took one out and
Maliyah Twitty also went deep.
Stenson was 4 for 5 with six RBI's. Baumgardt was 4 for 4 with five RBI's.
The Devils pounded out 19 hits, 10 for extra bases.
Lexi Grumbois was 3 fpr 4.
Teeghan Reams got the victory. She went four innings and gave up five earned runs.
Alli Heater went the final two innings.
Game Two – Lower Columbia 12 Clackamas 2
Sadie Knutson was dominating as she pitched five innings of one-hit baseball. Natalie Simmons got the lone hit for the Cougars, a two-run triple in the 4
th frame. Knutson worked around four walks and struck out seven Clackamas batters.
LCC blew it open with six runs in the second frame.
Karlee VonMoos singled home a run.
Kaydence Mackin hit an RBI double. Grumbois drove in two runs with a single.
Joelie Eder and Russell followed up with sacrifice fly's.
Grumbois was 3 for 4 with three RBI's. Stenson stayed hot with 2 hits and three RBI's.
The last time the Devils beat Clackamas was May 1
st of 2019.
LCC will play Clark on Saturday April 6
th at Fort Vancouver High School in Vancouver.
