(Portland, OR) – The Lower Columbia men's basketball team kept its perfect record intact with three wins at the NWAC Crossover hosted by Portland Community College.
LCC blew out host team Portland 91-48. The Devils defeated Blue Mountain 78-65. Lower Columbia escaped an upset at the hands of Everett with a close 56-54 win.
LOWER COLUMBIA 91 PORTLAND 48
The Devils were up by just seven at halftime. They turned up the intensity in the second half and turned the game into laugher. LCC outscored the Panthers 52-16 in the second half.
David Young spearheaded the stifling second half defense. The sophomore had a solid game with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds.
Kap Laila had 12 points and six rebounds in his hometown.
Keshawn Lewis had 11 points and four assists. James Groce also scored 11 points including 3 for 5 from long distance.
Amir Locus was one point shy of a double-double with nine points and a team-high 11 boards. Locus also had four assists.
Lower Columbia had eight turnovers. The team also blocked nine Portland shots.
LOWER COLUMBIA 78 BLUE MOUNTAIN 65
The Devils and Timberwolves played each other at the Red Devil Classic, an LCC victory. Blue Mountain played that game without leading scorer Anjani Jamison. This time around Jamison played, but the LCC defense held him to 5 for 14 shooting and just 3 for 10 from long range.
Meanwhile, the Devils had a 46-24 lead at the half before the T-Wolves rallied in the second half to make it interesting.
Five Devils scored in double figures. Laila had 15 points and five rebounds.
Malik Brown provided 14 points and five boards.
Lewis and
Javares Reid had 11 points each. Reid collected six rebounds. Super reserve Locus was again productive with 10 points.
LOWER COLUMBIA 56 EVERETT 54
Everett had the ball in waning seconds with a chance for the tie or perhaps the victory, but a pressured shot was off the rim and the Devils survived the Trojan upset.
The grind-it-out game featured good defense and poor shooting by both teams. LCC was 22 for 61 from the floor (36%). The Trojans were 21 for 60 (35%).
Young had a team-high 13 points for LCC. He added seven rebounds.
Laila had 12 points and five rebounds. James Groce scored 10 points off the bench.
Camryn Berry had eight points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
The Devils take an 11-0 record to California for a pair of non-NWAC games. The Devils take on Delta College on Tuesday December 17 in Stockton, CA. Game time is at 5 pm. Delta is 2-6 on the season.
LCC will then play Monterey Peninsula College on Wednesday December 18
th in Monterey, CA. Game time is 5 pm. Monterey is 0-9 on the season.
