(Longview, WA) – Myklebust Gym had a large crowd on hand to watch the Lower Columbia Red Devils defeat the Pierce Raiders 3-0.
There were several factors for the crowd. Two solid college volleyball teams doing battle in the league opener. Three former Kalama High School stars bringing family and friends to the match.
And, free pizza!
The Associated Students of Lower Columbia hosted the pizza and prizes and the LCC student body came out to enjoy the night.
The Devils enjoyed the match with a sweep by set scored of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-19. Pierce played tough and made the Devil work for every set victory.
Kate Onespot-Danforth had a great match for LCC. The sophomore had a team-high nine kills to go with a team-high 20 assists.
The Kalama kids played well for LCC.
Paige Chinchen had eight kills and 17 digs.
Kendal Collins also had eight kills.
Rhegan O'Neil returned to the court for Pierce after missing action due to an ankle injury. The former Kalama star had nine assists for the Raiders.
The Devils had a .241 kills percentage. Pierce had a .088 kill percentage.
Kate Johnson had some booming kills, finishing with seven on the night.
Kambree Baker had five kills.
Madi Noel played outstanding defense. She had 14 digs including a great "spatula" that kept a rally alive.
Alex Tinsley was also very solid with 15 assists and six digs.
LCC is now 12-6 on the season and 1-0 in league play. The Devils are back on the home court Friday September 22
nd when they host the Centralia Blazers at 6 pm.
