(Kent, WA) – For the first 50 minutes the Lower Columbia women's soccer team controlled possession and seemed in control against Green River.
And the Devils were behind 1-0.
Using almost all of the available time to take their first lead, the Devils cashed in at the 89 minute mark to defeat Green River 2-1 on Wednesday September 20
th.
Ella Willardson scored on a
Delaney McNett assist with just second left to pull out the road win and give LCC three big points in the race to defend their West Region championship.
Green River enjoyed a 1-0 lead when Rilee Leigh cashed in a penalty kick on a foul called inside the box. It appeared the contact took place just outside the box. It was certainly a call that could have gone either way.
The Gators continued to keep the Devils out of the scoring column until
Jasmari Nolasco finally broke through with a game tying goal at the 51' mark.
Rhyli Grim's assist got the Devils even.
With time running down, Willardson's score made it a much better road trip home.
Lower Columbia has a huge home match on Saturday September 23
rd when they take on first place Clark at 12 pm at Northlake Field. Clark is 4-0 on the league season, while the Devils are 3-1.
