(Gresham, OR) – The Lower Columbia College volleyball team is off to a 5-0 start after sweeping a road match against Mt. Hood on Wednesday August 30
th.
Kate Johnson and
Kambree Baker each had eight kills to lead LCC to the victory, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-17.
Nine Red Devils had a least one kill.
Kendal Collins had six kills. The LCC kill percentage on the night was .160.
It was fitting that the NWAC Co-Setters of the Week each had 12 against Mt. Hood.
Alex Tinsley and
Kate Onespot-Danforth were named to the weekly honor earlier in the day.
Madi Noel led LCC with 12 digs. Collins had 11 and
Paige Chinchen had 10.
Baker and Johnson were very effective at the net. Baker's kill percentage was .357 and Johnson was at .353.
Sitting 5-0 on the season, Lower Columbia will have an extreme test at the Coach G Memorial Tournament at Columbia Basin College in Pasco this weekend. The tournament will honor the memory of CBC head coach DiShondra Goree who tragically passed away last season.
The Devils will take on North Idaho Friday at 3 pm followed by a battle with the host CBC team at 7 pm. On Saturday, the Devils square off with defending champion Linn Benton at 3 pm followed by a match with Everett at 5 pm.
Five of the top 10 teams in the NWAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll will take part in the event in Pasco. Linn Benton is ranked #1, CBC and North Idaho tied for 4
th, LCC 7
th and Everett #10.
The Devils next home match is Wednesday September 6
th, a 6 pm start against Clark.
