(Pasco, WA) – Many of the top volleyball teams in the NWAC got together for the Coach G Memorial tournament at Columbia Basin College on Friday and Saturday September 1-2.
The tournament was played to honor Columbia Basin coach DiShondra Goree who tragically passed away late last season.
She would be proud of the talent assembled.
The Lower Columbia College team competed well against the top flight competition, but they went 1-3 including two five set matches that could have gone either way.
NORTH IDAHO 3 LOWER COLUMBIA 2
The Devils opened with a back and forth affair with North Idaho. LCC started well with a 25-15 opening set. The Cardinals then rallied back to win the next two 17-25 and 21-25. Lower Columbia did not quit, forcing a fifth set with a 25-14 win. The Cards took the decider 15-8.
Paige Chinchen and
Kendal Collins led the net attack with 10 kills each.
Kate Johnson added nine kills.
Kate Onespot-Danforth had 22 assists.
Madi Noel and Collins had 17 digs each.
LOWER COLUMBIA 3 COLUMBIA BASIN 1
Despite dropping the opening set 17-25, the Devils buckled down and took the next three 25-19, 25-15 and 25-23.
Kambree Baker had 10 kills to lead the way.
Alex Tinsley had 17 assists. Noel led the defense with 19 digs. Collins added 17 and
Payton Torrey had 14. Chinchen was the serving star with five aces.
LINN BENTON 3 LOWER COLUMBIA 0
The two-time defending champion Road Runners appear to be the team to beat again this season. They swept the Devils 25-15, 25-15 and 25-16.
Onespot-Danforth was the standout for LCC with 12 assists and 12 digs.
EVERETT 3 LOWER COLUMBIA 2
The tournament concluded with an outstanding match decided when the Trojans took the fifth and deciding set 15-12.
Collins had 16 kills, Noel was credited with 24 digs, and Onespot-Danforth had 28 assists and four blocks.
After starting the season 5-0, the Devils are 6-3 with another busy week in front of them. The Devils host the Clark Penguins Wednesday September 6
th. The match at Myklebust Gym gets underway at 6 pm
LCC then head to Lakewood for the Pierce Quad Invitational on Thursday September 7
th. The Devils take on Skagit Valley at 1 pm and then play Bellevue at 4 pm.
