(Longview, WA) – The Lower Columbia volleyball team has launched the season in high-style by taking all four matches at the LCC Round Robin event August 25-26 at Myklebust Gym.
The season opening match was a potential blowout that quickly turned into a five-set nail biter. LCC jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Wenatchee Valley only to see the Knights come back and take the next two sets. Lower Columbia was able to get the victory with a 15-12 deciding set win.
Paige Chinchen led the way with 13 kills.
Kate Onespot-Danforth had 10 kills.
Alex Tinsley led the way with 23 assists. Onespot-Danforth also had 18 assists and 17 digs.
Also on Friday, the Devils defeated Clackamas 3-1 in a tightly contested match. The set scored were 25-19, 14-25, 25-23 and 25-22.
Kate Johnson had 11 kills against the Cougars. Onespot-Danforth had 18 assists and 13 digs. Freshman libero
Madi Noel led the defense with 23 digs.
The Devils had an easy time in Saturday mornings 3-0 victory over league rival Centralia. The Devils then closed out the tournament with a 3-0 sweep over Umpqua.
Checking the weekend stats including all four matches, Johnson led with 33 kills (.239) and 10 blocks.
Noel had 51 digs. Onespot-Danforth filled the stat sheet with 23 kills (.218), 80 assists, three blocks, five aces and 36 digs.
Tinsley had 66 assists, five kills, seven aces and 18 digs.
Kambree Baker had 20 kills, four aces, 12 digs and seven blocks.
Cheyenne Wetlesen had 16 kills (.333) with five blocks. Chinchen had 24 kills, 39 digs, three blocks and five aces.
Kendal Collins had 41 digs, 23 kills, five aces and two blocks.
Payton Torrey had nine kills with 9 digs.
Brooke Parsons had six digs.
Samantha Farland had a kill, a dig and a block.
The Devils hit the road Wednesday August 30
th as they take on the Mt. Hood Saints in Gresham at 6 pm.
The competition gets even better Friday and Saturday in Pasco at the Columbia Basin Invitational. On Friday the Devils play North Idaho at 3 pm and CBC at 7 pm. Saturday the Devs play Linn Benton at 3 pm and Everett at 5 pm.
