Clackamas Attacks Early In Sweep Over LCC

(Oregon City, OR) – The Clackamas Cougars went into early attack mode as they swept the Lower Columbia softball team 9-1 and 12-2 on Wednesday April 5th.

The Cougars did most of their damage early in both games.

Game #1 – Clackamas 9 Lower Columbia 1

The Cougars scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Red Devils starter Alli Heater got out of trouble in the bottom of the first when Clackamas lined into a double play.  The Cougs then collected nine hits in the fateful second.

Sadie Knutson did a good job in relief erasing nine of the 11 batters she faced.  Clackamas collected the victory when they hit a solo homer in the sixth.

The Devils were held in check as they had just two hits.  Teeghan Reams had both hits, a double and a single.

Game #2 – Clackamas 12 Lower Columbia 2

With a chance to bounce back in the second game the Devils scored a quick run on a Bella Aspaas RBI single.  But their hopes were dashed early when the Cougars answered with 10 runs in the first inning.  Knutson didn't record an out as Clackamas got a leadoff walked and then five straight hits including a three run homer.

Reams came in and also found the going tough.  Two walks followed by a grand slam put the Cougars into cruise control.  Heater returned to strike out three of the four batters she faced.

LCC had six hits in the nightcap, all singles.  Aspaas was 3 for 3 with two perfect bunt singles.

Sawyer Stenson was 2 for 2. Heater had the other base hit.

The Devils fall to 6-4 in South Region play.

The Devils are looking too bounce back when they host the Clark Penguins on Saturday April 8th.  The doubleheader at Tam O'Shanter Park is scheduled for 12 noon.  The weather forecast for Thursday and Friday prior to Saturday is not promising. Should the games be rained out, the announcement will be made on LCC Athletics social media.
