(Port Angeles, WA) –
Bailee Larson was back in her old stomping grounds as the Devils took part in the Pirate Classic in Port Angeles December 1-3.
Larson led LCC in all three games as Lower Columbia won 2 of 3 games in the event hosted by Peninsula College.
Game One- Lower Columbia 73 Bellevue 41
The Devils rode a third quarter wave to cruise to the victory. Up by just three at the half, the Devils outscored the Bulldogs 31-9 in the third quarter and were in control the rest of the way.
Larson was in foul trouble most of the first half but once she got back on the floor the Devils thrived. Larson scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the second half.
Another Port Angeles-area Red Devil also did well back home.
Courtney Swan from Neah Bay had 14 points in the game.
Reigha Niemeyer had 11 points and six rebounds.
Karlee VonMoos came off the bench for a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Game Two – Lower Columbia 83 Whatcom 65
Larson had another big game with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Swan was right behind with 17 points and Niemeyer had 15.
Kayla Kasabuchi was solid with six points and six rebounds.
LCC had four players score five points each of the bench. VonMoos added nine boards to her five points.
Maris Baklund had five tallies.
Dylan Mann and
Morgan Hamilton had five each.
Game Three – Peninsula 72 Lower Columbia 65
The host Pirates hit some key shots down the stretch to hold off a Red Devil rally.
Down 14 points with five minutes left in the third quarter, LCC went on a big run to tie up the game heading to the 4
th quarter. The game went back and forth but Talia Marini hit a huge three with just over a minute to go that sealed it for the Pirates.
Larson was again at the top of the stat sheet with 19 points, her third straight game in the tourney with that scoring total. Larson also pulled down seven caroms.
Hamilton was key in the comeback and she ended up with 13 points. Niemeyer scored 10.
LCC is 4-2 on the season and they next take the floor at home on Tuesday December 5
th against the Pacific University JV's. The game begins at 6 pm.
