Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Devils Open Season With Two Home Wins

(Longview, WA) – Judging by the attendance at the first two home games, there are a lot of people excited about the 2023-24 Lower Columbia women's basketball team.

The fans were treated to two victories.  The young Devils didn't shoot particularly well, but they showed athleticism and pressure defense which will go a long way this season.

LCC forced 67 turnovers in the two games.

Friday November 17 – Lower Columbia 64 Clark 47

The Devils turned a close game into a resounding victory by outscoring the Penguins 17-8 in the third quarter.  Bailee Larson led the Devils with 18 points.  The sophomore from Port Angeles was 7-11 from the floor and 3 for 4 from three-point range.

The LCC pressure defense forced Clark into 26 turnovers.  The Penguins shot just 27 percent and they missed their first 17 three-point attempts over the first three quarters.

Morgan Hamilton had a good game in her college debut. The freshman from Napavine scored 12 points with five boards.

Reigha Niemeyer hit 6 of 7 free throw attempts and scored 11 points.

Kayla Kasubuchi had six points and led LCC with seven rebounds from the point guard position.

Lexi Roberts had seven points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Dejah Wilson led Clark with 14 points.

Sunday November 19 – Lower Columbia 57 Blue Mountain 33

Although the Devils struggled hitting shots (28.8%), the defense didn't let up.  LCC forced 41 Timberwolf turnovers.  Blue Mountain could never get into an offensive flow due to the LCC disruption.

Larson had another solid game with 16 points, nine rebounds and five steals.

Niemeyer was the only other LCC player in double figures with 12 points.

Dylan Mann was a big contributor with four points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Karlee VonMoos had four points, five rebounds and three steals.

The Devils (2-0) will have another home game on Tuesday November 21st as the Clackamas Cougars come to town for a 6 pm tip-off.  The game will be followed by the men's game featuring LCC versus Chemeketa.
