Devils Shutout Clippers In 5-0 Win

(Olympia, WA) --  Lower Columbia College women's soccer now has the longest win streak (7) in the NWAC after defeating South Puget Sound 5-0 on Saturday, October 28 at the Regional Athletic Complex in Olympia, WA.

The Devils were firing on all cylinders Saturday in Olympia. LCC came out and within the first 25 minutes were up 2-0 on the Clippers.  Rhyli Grim got things going in the 13th minute off a Devils corner kick with assists going to Ava Young and Scout Mathewson

In the 25th minute, Ella Willardson took a pass from Jennifer Baertlein down the right side and around a Clippers defender to hit a crossover. The pass bounced off a SPSCC defenders foot and rolled into the net for the Devils second goal of the day. Molly Romanchock was credited with the goal.

Lower Columbia's third goal came at the start of the second half when, in the 51st minute, Rhyli Grim took the ball down the left side of the field and crossed it over to a wide open Nataija Blaylock in front of the goal who tipped it just past the Clippers goalie and the far post to make it 3-0 LCC.

Goal number four came from another LCC corner kick. Delaney McNett took the corner with a short pass to Grim who passed right back to McNett, who then hit a perfect shot from outside the box that floated right over the goalies head. 4-0 LCC.

The final goal of the day came in the 87th minute. This particular goal was a true team effort. Bethany Bergholm started it off with drive down the field, passed it off to Koda Hoaglin who one-touched it to Brynlee Grant. Grant one-touched it Jasmari Nolasco, who then passed it outside to Willardson. Willardson dribbled it around one Clippers defender and hit a rocket from just inside the box past the diving Clippers goalie.  Final 5-0 Lower Columbia.

Devils Goalies Taylor Wilkinson (1 save) and Jade Goulding (2 saves) combined for the shutout.

Lower Columbia finished the day with 11 shots, 10 of those on goal to South Puget Sounds 6 shots (3 on goal). The Devils had 7 corner kicks to the Clippers 1.

Lower Columbia finishes the regular season with a best-in-the-West  10-1-1 record, having won their last 7 straight matches. As the West Region Champions the Red Devils get a first round bye in the NWAC Soccer Playoffs.

The Devils will host the Quarterfinals match on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Longview Memorial Stadium. Time of the match will be determined later this week.

LCC will face the winner of the Regional playoff match between Skagit Valley and Clackamas. That match is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov 1st at Skagit Valley.
