(Vancouver, WA) -- The Lower Columbia College women's soccer team dominated in taking the Northwest Athletic Conference West Region Championship for the second straight year with a 4-0 win at Clark College on Wednesday October 25th.
Lower Columbia had been preparing for this rematch with Clark since late September when the two teams battled to a 0-0 draw on the Devils home pitch. The Red Devils were not happy with that outcome and were determined to show that they are the top team in the West.Â
It was in the 27th min that the Red Devils hit goal number one when
Sydney Lulay caught a cross from
Nataija Blaylock to find the back of the net. It was Lulay's third goal on the season.Â
Less than 10 minutes later the Devils struck again as
Rhyli Grim bounced one past Clark's goalie off a pass from
Ella Willardson. Grim now leads the Devils with 11 goals so far this season. She is also 6th in the NWAC for goals scored and 5th for points.
The Red Devils did not let up there as they continued to attack. In the 41st minute
Jennifer Baertlein hit a cross to a waiting
Jasmari Nolasco who threaded the needle between the Clark keeper and the goalpost giving the Devils a 3-0 lead that would hold into the half.Â
The second half was a defensive back and forth until Clark fouled
Molly Romanchock in the goal box giving Lower Columbia a penalty kick.Â
Delaney McNett was chosen to take the kick. McNett was cool and calm as she booted the ball into the left corner of the net passed a diving Clark keeper to make it 4-0 LCC. It was nothing but McNett.
With the win the Red Devils are your 2023 West Region Champions and will host the NWAC Championship quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 4th.Â
But first, there is still one more match for the Red Devils to finish out the 2023 season. Lower Columbia will be on the road Saturday, October 28 at South Puget Sound for a 12:00 pm kick off. The Clippers play their home matches at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey, WA.
