(Lakewood, WA) – The Lower Columbia College volleyball team kept their heads high and fought off adversity to claim a key road victory on Friday the 13
th.
Down 2-1 at the Pierce College Gymnasium, LCC raced to an easy 4
th set to tie up the match then captured the contest with a 5
th set victory.
The set scores were 25-16, 24-26, 23-25, 25-6 and 15-10.
The match started strong for the Devils as they took the opening set 25-16. But the Raiders came back to win two close sets to get the advantage.
That just motivated the Devils to regain momentum and they certainly did so with the blowout win in set four.
The Devs were led by sophomore star
Kate Johnson. She had 20 kills with a .357 kill percentage.
Kate Onespot-Danforth knew who to feed and Johnson was the recipient of many of her assists. Onespot-Danforth had 35 assists to lead the way. She also was featured on the attack as she had 10 kills herself on a fine .526 kill percentage.
Paige Chinchen also had a solid match with 15 kills and 16 digs.
Madi Noel was again a leader on the back row with a team-high 23 digs.
Kendal Collins had nine kills and 11 digs for LCC.
The victory keeps LCC in the hunt for the West Region title. The Devils travel to Centralia on Wednesday for a 6:30 pm match against the Trail Blazers. The team can ill afford to look ahead to the big Friday night showdown against Highline.
Highline remains on top of the division with a record of 7-0. Lower Columbia is 6-1, its lone league loss to the T-Birds back on September 27
th.
