(Lakewood, WA) Red Devils volleyball traveled to Pierce College in Lakewood, WA on Wednesday, September 7, for some non-league matches vs the Bellevue Bulldogs and the Edmonds Tritons.
Bellevue (5-3) was first up for Lower Columbia and the Bulldogs came out strong jumping out to quick lead on a sluggish looking Devils squad with a 25-13 set one win. LCC regrouped and reset to take the second set 25-21 but that would be it for the Red Devils as Bellevue would take set three and four, 25-15 and 25-14.
Paige Chinchen led the Devils with 8 kills and 20 digs.
Kate Johnson had 7 kills and 3 aces.
Katy Cooper added 5 kills.
Alex Tinsley had 20 assists and 12 digs.
The Red Devils were not about to give up two matches in a day though, defeating Edmonds (3-4) in 4 sets (25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23).
Jayden Foster had 8 kills. Johnson and Chinchen continued to be solid up front for the Devils with 7 and 6 kills respectively.
Arianna Vreeland was all over the court with 27 digs.
Alex Tinsley put up 26 assists.
Kate Onespot-Danforth added 8 assists.
The Northwest Athletic Conference announced the Athletes of the Week for Aug 29-Sept 4.
Lower Columbia's
Kate Johnson earned Offensive Player of the Week. Johnson had a strong week from the right side, recording 35 kills with a .369 hitting percentage in four matches, leading LCC to a 3-1 record. Johnson also had 11 total blocks to go with 17 digs and 15 service receptions
West Region Player of the Week honors went to:
Kate Johnson (Offensive),
Alex Tinsley (Setter),
Kate Onespot-Danforth (Setter), and Arianna Vreeleand (Defensive)
The first coaches poll of the season was also released on Thursday, September 8, and Lower Columbia came in at 4th.
Next up for the Red Devils is a home match vs the Shoreline Dolphins on September 13 at 6:00 pm.
