(Des Moines, Wa) Red Devils volleyball continued their hot start of the 2022-23 season winning 3 out of 4 matches at the Highline Round Robin this last Friday, Sept.2, and Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022.
Lower Columbia started the weekend facing off against the defending NWAC champions, the Linn-Benton Roadrunners. LCC came out strong in the first set giving Linn Benton everything they could handle. The Devils were up 23-18 and looking good but the Roadrunners had other plans as they forced errors and kept pounding down the side to come out with a 25-23 win. Linn-Benton would go on to defeat the Red Devils in three sets; 25-23, 25-17, 25-19.
Paige Chinchen put up 9 kills in the match.
Kate Johnson had 5 and
Jayden Foster added 4.
Alex Tinsley had 11 assists and Kate Onespot-Dansforth had 11.
The second match of the day for the Devils was against the Yakima Valley Yaks from the east region.
Red Devils started off a little slow taking the first set 26-24 but found their groove again with solid defense and some great plays in the backcourt taking the second set 25-20. Yakima would not go down easy though and fought back in the third set to win 25-23. The Red Devils did not give up though and pounded the Yaks in the fourth set with a 25-10 win to take the match 3-1.
Katy Cooper had 26 Digs and 6 kills for the Devils.
Arianna Vreeland had a solid 25 digs
Paige Chinchen was huge with 14 kills, 18 digs, and 3 aces
Alex Tinsley had 18 assists and 2 aces.
Kate Johnson contributed 10 kills
After a good meal and good night sleep the ladies were ready for day two which started with the Big Bend Vikings. Lower Columbia picked up right were they left off the night before showing no mercy to the Vikings defeating them in three straight sets (25-18, 25-8, 25-7)
The Devils put had a team attack percentage of .271 with 42 kills. Once again
Paige Chinchen lead the Devils with 17 kills and 7 digs.
Kate Johnson had 8 kills and 2 blocks.
Alex Tinsley continued to be solid with 22 assists,11 digs, and 4 aces
Arianna Vreeland put up 17 digs with 7 assists.
Kate Onespot-Dansforth had 13 assists
Lower Columbia ended the weekend with a familiar opponent, the Green River Gators.
The Red Devils seemed ready to head home as they made quick work of the Gators in set one with a 25-3 win. Green River pushed back though in the second set to challenge the Devils but LCC overcame it and went on to a 25-18 win. Green River once again attempted to challenge the Devils in the third set but Lower Columbia was just to much for them as the Devils went on to a 25-16 win to take the match 3-1
Kate Johnson lead the Devils with 7 kills and 2 blocks.
Brooke Parsons had 4 kills and 9 digs.
Jazzy Golly added 3 kills and 2 blocks.
Devils volleyball will be back in action on Wednesday, September 7, at Pierce College Ft. Steilacoom campus in Lakewood, WA vs the Bellevue Bulldogs at 5:00 pm and the Edmonds Tritons at 7:00 pm.
