(Lakewood, WA) – The Lower Columbia Red Devils knew they had a tough West Region opener when the schedule came out last spring. The Devils were up to the challenge.
LCC defeated the defending West champion Pierce Raiders 3-1 on Wednesday September 23
rd. The big road win moved the Devils to 15-3 on the season and 1-0 in the West.
Kate Johnson led the net attack with 11 kills. The LCC setters were solid as
Alex Tinsley had 18 assists and
Kate Onespot-Danforth had 15 helpers.
The Devils jumped out to a big lead in the opening set before holding off Pierce 25-17. The Raiders weren't going away as they tied things up with a 25-20 win in the second set. The Red Devils came back to take set three 25-21. The final set was a battle as both teams went back and forth before the Devils took the final two points and a 25-23 clincher.
Addie Downs had 15 kills to lead Pierce.
Brooke Parsons had a productive night as she had eight kills and 11 digs.
Jayden Foster also put away eight kills.
Despite having an off-night at the net,
Paige Chinchen led LCC with 17 digs. Libero
Arianna Vreeland had 15 digs.
It's another road trip on Friday September 23
rd as LCC makes the short trip to Centralia for a 7 pm match with the Trailblazers.
The first league home game is Wednesday September 28
th against Highline at 6 pm.
