Devils go 4-1 over the Weekend

Devils Volleyball went 4-1 over the weekend with a third place finish at the NWAC Crossover hosted by Mt. Hood Community College. 

Before the NWAC Crossoverm, Lower Columbia faced the Linfield Wildcats Junior Varisty team in McMinniville, OR. The Devils and Wildcats battled it out to a fifth set with the Red Devils earning the win (21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 15-10).
Paige Chinchen lead the Devils with 16 kills, 16 digs, and 6 aces. Kate Johnson had 11 kills and Jayden Foster add 10 kills. 
Arianna Vreeland lead the Devils defense with 24 digs and Alex Tinsley put up 27 assists. Katy Cooper was big with 24 assists. 

After a short rest LCC kicked off the crossover with a 10:00 am match vs the Spokane Sasquatch.  The Devils got off to a bit of a sluggish start in the first set but turned it around quickly and went on to a 3 set win over the Sasquatch (25-12, 25-18, 25-22).
Katy Cooper had 9 kills, 10 digs. Olivia Kelzenberg added 6 kills and 3 blocks. Alex Tinsley and Kate Onespot-Danforth continued to be stellar with 18 and 14 assists respectively. Arianna Vreeland was all over the back court as the Libero with 15 digs

Next up for the Devils was a 2:00 pm match up with the Umpqua Riverhawks. The Devils and Riverhawks meet up once already this season on August 27 with LCC taking that match 3-0. 
This time the Riverhawks put up a harder fight as they went on 5-0 run in the fourth set to win it 26-24 and force a fifth. LCC regrouped and reset to win the fifth set and take the match 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 15-25, 26-24, 15-7).
Katy Cooper lead the Red Devils with13 kills and 15 digs. Paige Chinchen and Kate Johnson both added 12 kills each. Chinchen also had 14 digs. Libero Ariana Vreeland had 32 digs and 4 assist. Alex Tinsley put up 31 assists and 6 ace serves.

Saturday morning had the Devils facing the Edmonds Tritons. Lower Columbia and Edmonds were both 2-0 through the first day of competition. 
The Devils look tired after 3 games in two days as the Tritons were hitting .203 to the Devils .034. In the end Edmonds took the match 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18) over Lower Columbia.
Chinchen had 8 kills, Foster and Johnson had 6 kills each. Tinsley had 21 assists and Vreeland had 19 digs

The loss put the Devils into the third place match vs the host team, Mt Hood. 
Lower Columbia was not about to lose two match in a row and came out on fire vs the Mt. Hood Saints taking the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20. Some Devils errors allowed the Saints to take the third set 25-23 but LCC cleaned it up to take the fourth set 25-21 and win the match 3-1. 
Paige Chinchen and Olivia Kelzenberg both had 8 kills. Chinchen also had 8 digs. Alex Tinsley continued to stand out with 21 assists and 2 ace's. Onespot-Danforth added 16 assists. Arianna Vreeland finished an outstanding weekend of play with another 30 digs. 

Devils volleyball finished their non-league schedule with a 14-3 record. LCC will start west region play on Wednesday, September 21, when they travel to Pierce College in Lakewood, WA for a 7:00 pm match.
