(Kelso, WA) – The Lower Columbia Red Devils softball team got another big performance from sophomore
Jade Behic in a double header sweep over Clark on Wednesday April 6
th.
Behic got a win and a save in the circle, and slugged a home run in each game as the Devils won 8-0 (5) and 9-4 at Heerensperger Field.
Behic got the start in the first game and allowed just one hit. The sophomore from Ewa Beach, HI struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
At the plate, Behic was 3 for 3 with a solo homer, double and two runs scored.
Sunny Bennion and
Taylor Avram each drove in two runs.
Destiny Dunlap also had two RBI's to go with two hits.
Katie Adkins also had two hits for LCC.
Darby DeRuyter started game two and she ran into some early trouble as the winless Penguins took a 3-0 lead after 2 ½ innings. DeRuyter settled down and got through the top of the 4
th when her teammates rallied with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Behic and
Katelyn McGough got the party started with back-to-back homers. The Devils added two more in the frame and LCC had a 4-3 lead heading to the 5
th.
Behic then took over in relief and shut the door with three solid innings to get the save. Behic allowed two hits and struck out six to preserve the victory for DeRuyter.
Maddie Curaming had two hits and three RBI's. Adkins also drove in a pair.
The Devils go to 12-8 on the season and 6-2 in South Region play.
Lower Columbia will take part in the NWAC Chehalis Round Robin event on Friday and Saturday April 8-9. The Devils will play Douglas BC at 3 pm and Edmonds at 5:30 pm on Friday. LCC will play Pierce at 11:30 am and Skagit Valley at 4:30 pm on Saturday. All of the games will be at the Chehalis Turf Fields.
