(Kelso, WA) – The Lower Columbia College softball team got it's last pre-league action in by hosting a double header with the Linfield College JV's on Thursday March 24
th.
Although Linfield got the sweep, there were plenty of positives to take into NWAC South Region play.
In game one, the Devils exploded for eight runs in the 5
th inning only to give five of them back in the sixth. Linfield won the game 9-8. Held to just one hit in the first four innings, LCC put together four hits, drew four walks and took advantage of two Linfield errors to take the lead after five.
Linfield took advantage of a hit batter, two walks and two base hits off LCC starter
Jade Behic. Behic had settled down after giving up a three run homer in the first inning, but Linfield chased the LCC ace after 5 1/3 innings. Reliever
Darby DeRuyter closed out the game with four straight outs.
Katelynn McGough led LCC with two hits. DeRuyter and
Maddie Curaming both had RBI singles.
In game two Linfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an two innings and a half.
Ada Williams suicide squeeze bunt and a
Mallory Brown RBI single closed the gap to 3-2.
Linfield led 4-2 when in the 4
th when McGough launched a two-run shot followed by a Behic solo blast. The Devils took a 6-4 lead heading into the 5
th.
But Jenna Wong of Linfield hit a three-run homer and former Red Devil
Kaylee Barnum blasted a two-run shot in the sixth and Linfield went on to a 9-7 victory.
Sunny Bennion of Lower Columbia had two stolen bases in game two, three total on the afternoon.
The Devils are ready to begin South Region play Saturday March 26
th at home against the Mt. Hood Saints. The double header at Tam O'Shanter Park in Kelso begins at 12 pm.
