(Everett, WA) -- The Lower Columbia men's basketball team came to an end in the NWAC Sweet 16 when the Spokane Sasquatch came back to beat the Devils 64-63.
Jaron Williams hit two free throws with 5 seconds left to lift Bigfoot into the Elite 8. Cole Hardy's hurried shot at the buzzer was off the mark. The Devils end the season with a Western Division championship and a record of 19-7.
This one stings. The Devils had a 12 point lead at halftime and were in control most of the game. Spokane never quit and they took advantage of LCC missed free throws and untimely Devil turnovers.
Lower Columbia was 7 for 17 at the free throw line in the second half and 15 for 29 in the game.
Keylin Vance led LCC scorers with 16 points. Kyle Gruhler had 10 points and six rebounds. Sherman Royal III had eight points and five boards.
Point guard Ky-Mani Pollard scored seven points and had four assists.
Head coach Mickey Polis gave Spokane credit. "We played really great defense to get the lead but Spokane started making shots and getting downhill on us", he said. "We got a little tight and started missing free throws and throwing the ball around. You do those things, your going to lose in the playoffs.
"I'm really proud of the group and the way they played hard. We have some great people on this team and it was another challenging and fun season."
