Devils Drop 3 Of 4 At Spokane

(Spokane, WA) – The Lower Columbia baseball team found the road can be tough.

The Spokane Sasquatch won three of four games on their home field and a late LCC rally in the series finale kept it from being a Bigfoot sweep.

The Devils scored three runs in the 6th and three in the 7th to pull out an 8-6 victory in the fourth game of the weekend set.  Eric Luchies had the big hit in Sunday's seven inning game as he drove in the tying run and game winning run with a single.  Mac Elske got the win with two innings of one-hit ball.

The series began Saturday as LCC made the long bus trip the day of the game and found it tough to get going against the Sasquatch.  Spokane native Michael Schwarz got the start for LCC and he had to deal with his first real test of the young season.  Schwarz went 4 2/3 innings and gave up six hits and seven runs.  Jadon Williamson came on and did an admirable job of relief with 3 1/3 innings allowing two runs on three hits.

LCC could not mount a serious comeback in the game.  Luchies went 2 for 4 with two RBI's.  Matthew Schwarz had two hits for LCC.

Game two on Saturday again saw Bigfoot score early.  Devil starter Ryan Pitts game up three runs in the first two innings but settled down to go five innings.  With darkness setting in, the Devils thought they would be able to come back on Sunday to finish out the game but the umpire ruled it an official game.  The Devils were held to just four hits in the five innings.  Nick Miller had a double for the Devils only extra basehit.

The Red Devils offense continue to be held in check in the first game Sunday.  LCC was held to just four hits, all single.  Tyler Peterson had a hit and an RBI before being ejected for loud exception to a check swing strikeout.

Starter Braeden Munger took the loss going three innings allowing three hits and three runs.  Brayden Marcum came on in relief and did a great job. Marcum went five innings allowing three hits. One of the hits was a homerun by Spokane's Braeden Corden.

In the final game of the series LCC got the offense going just in time.  Down 6-2 after five innings in the seven inning game, LCC came up with the late offense to avoid the sweep.  Luchies had two hits and three RBI's in the game. Daniel Gernon hit a two-run homer for LCC.

Cole Bertram lasted just 1 1/3 innings allowing four runs on two hits and five walks.  Aaron Robertson allowed one run in 1 2/3 and Brayden Wells allowed a run in two innings of work.  Elske got the win with his clutch relief in the 6th and 7th.

The Devils are 9-3 on the season and return home Saturday March 19th for a double header against the Everett Trojans.  The first game begins at 12 pm.  The two team then meet in Everett on Sunday March 20th for a 1 pm DH.
