(Longview, WA) – The Lower Columbia College women's basketball team took an 18-12 lead over Tacoma after one quarter of play on Wednesday February 23
rd. But instead of going on big runs that lead to large leads like most of the season, the Devils just kept adding on in a chunks of four.
The Devils beat the Titans 70-50 at Myklebust Gym to raise their league mark to 9-0 on the season. LCC outscored TCC 14-10 in the second, 20-16 in the third and then went back to a six point advantage in the fourth. Put it all together and it's a 20 point win over a Tacoma team that had been playing good basketball.
Michaela Harris had a great game for the Devils. The sophomore guard from Layton, UT had 20 points on an array of slashing drives to the bucket. She also hit 1-2 from long range.
Asia Castillo got the start for LCC and she took advantage of the extra minutes. Castillo was in the line-up while regular starter
Ally Harman rests a sore knee. Castillo had 15 points and hustled all over the court.
Danica Schmidt shot just three times and made two of them but it was on the boards where she had a huge impact. Schmidt pulled down 14 rebounds and also blocked two shots.
Jodi Noyes was efficient on offense hitting 4 of 6 shots for nine points.
The Red Devil bench was effective led by
Jazlynn Novelli with eight points and
Chinedu Nnadi with seven.
The second ranked Red Devils are now 19-1 on the season and have already clinched an NWAC Sweet 16 berth. Now the sights are on a West Region championship. The Devils have a two game lead in the loss column over second place Centralia, which dropped a contest to South Puget Sound on Wednesday. LCC can capture the division title with a win at Centralia on Saturday February 26
th.
The final home game will be Wednesday March 2
nd against Highline. The start time for Sophomore Night will be 5:30 and prior to the game the sophomores will be honored.
