(Longview, WA) – The Lower Columbia volleyball team swept Green River 3-0 in the regular season finale on Friday November 4
th.
With the Sophomore Night victory, the Red Devils claimed the West Region championship with a league mark of 11-1. LCC will share the Region title with Highline. The two teams split with each other and both had 11-1 league record.
Friday's proceedings started with a ceremony to honor the five soon-to-be departing sophomores.
Katy Cooper,
Jazzy Golly,
Jayden Foster and
Arianna Vreeland received flowers and framed pictures along with plenty of hugs.
Olivia Kelzenberg was back home watching on Devil Vision after undergoing recent knee surgery. The Devils played to the cameras to make sure Liv could feel the love.
As for the match, the Devil took care of things in just less than 70 minutes, winning by scores of 25-5, 25-11 and 25-21.
Foster had a very good final night on the Myklebust Gymnasium floor with eight kills and a hitting percentage of .438.
Freshmen
Paige Chinchen also had eight kills. The Devils as a team had a kill percentage of .314.
Cooper added seven kills and 18 digs in her final LCC home match.
Vreeland had 12 digs.
Alex Tinsley had 35 assists. Golly had four kills, four aces, nine digs and a block.
With Highline and LCC tied for the top and identical perfect records against the rest of the league, a pre-determined number decided the T-Birds as the host team for the NWAC Regional. It's certainly not an ideal way to break the tie, especially with home court in the Regional a huge advantage.
But the Devils will not dwell on their fate and will get ready to compete at the North Regional hosted by Bellevue College.
LCC will open up Saturday November 12
th at 10 am against the East #3 Yakima Valley. Two teams will advance to the Elite Eight after the action concludes on Sunday. The other pairing at 1 pm Saturday pits host Bellevue against the #4 South team Rogue.
