(Bellevue, WA) Red Devils volleyball defeats Yakima Valley in three (25-11, 25-18, 25-9) on day two of the NWAC volleyball north regionals.
The Devils regional action started on Saturday, November 12, with a hard fought but unsuccessful 5 set loss to Yakima Valley (25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13). LCC went up 2 sets to 1 on Yakima but the Yaks battled back in the fourth set capitalizing on Devils errors to win the set forcing a fifth and deciding set. In the fifth, LCC actually hit 9 kills to Yakima's 5 but Devils errors were the deciding factor giving the Yaks the 15-13 set win and the match.
Paige Chinchen lead the Devils with 20 kills and 17 digs.
Jayden Foster had 13 kills and 3 blocks.
Kate Johnson added 9 kills.
Alex Tinsley was superior with 49 assists.
Arianna Vreeland continued to be huge on defense with 31 digs.
Lower Columbia was not out of it yet though as they moved into the secondary bracket for a win and move on, lose and go home match vs the Rogue Osprey.
The Devils and Osprey battled to a fourth set with Lower Columbia taking it 3-1 (27-25, 13-25, 26-28, 20-25). After dropping the first set 27-25 LCC came out on fire out hitting Rogue .229% to -.100% in the second set. Overall Lower Columbia out hit Rogue .119% to .095% with 51 kills to Rogue's 42.
Katy Cooper put 12 Kills along with 26 Digs.
Kate Johnson had a solid 10 kills and 3 blocks. Chinchen added 9 kills to go with her 25 Digs. Vreeland had 40 Digs, 7 assists and 2 ace serves.
Alex Tinsley had 35 assists and 6 ace serves.
The win over Rogue meant the Devils would come back on Sunday, November 13, for one last match, with the winner advancing on to the elite eight round of the NWAC Championship. The final match would be vs the Devils initial opponent, Yakima Valley.
The Devils came out playing at another level Sunday, defeating Yakima in three straight sets (25-11, 25-18, 25-9).
Lower Columbia dominated the match with 9 ace serves to 0, 33 kills to 7, 63 digs to 52, 31 assist to 17, and 49 points to 18 for the Yaks.
Chinchen continued to have a great weekend with 9 kills, 2 aces, and 10 digs.
Johnson had 7 kills and Cooper added 6 kills. Tinsley had another big match with 26 assists, 4 aces, and 3 blocks.
Jazzy Golly was also big at the net with 4 blocks.
Next up for the Red Devils in the NWAC Championships is the elite eight round at Pierce College in Lakewood, WA. Lower Columbia will face The North Idaho Cardinals at 5:00 PM on Friday, November 18.
