Devils and Clippers go to five in Olympia

(Olympia, WA) Red Devils and Clippers battled it out to fifth set on Wednesday, October 5, at South Puget Sound. The match was back and forth with each team showing dominance at times. It was Lower Columbia that came out on top defeating South Puget Sound 3-2 (19-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-8, 15-7).

The Devils started out a bit flat footed as the Clippers got out to 14-9 lead in the first set. This proved to be to much of a deficit to overcome as the Clippers took the first set 25-19. LCC did not let that discourage them though as they regrouped and took an 18-5 lead in the second set before winning it 25-13.
The third set was back and forth with only a two point difference until the SPSCC went on a 7 point run and held it to take the set 25-23. That would be all she wrote for the Clippers though as the Devils hit the gas in the fourth set lead by Kate Johnson and Jayden Foster. Set fourth went to Devils 25-8 and the fifth was more of the same as the Devils finished off the Clippers 15-7 to take the 3-2 match win.

Johnson lead the Red Devils with 18 kills and .581 hitting percentage.
Foster finished the night with 7 kills, 2 aces, and 2 blocks
Katy Cooper was stellar with 9 kills, 3 aces, and 20 digs.
Arianna Vreeland had 24 digs
Alex Tinsley continued to shine with 28 assists
Paige Chinchen added 5 kills, 3 aces, and 16 digs

Layne Martin lead the Clippers with 18 kills

The win keeps Lower Columbia in the hunt for the West Region title at 3-1, 17-4 overall. LCC is currently in third place in the West behind Highline (4-0) and Pierce (4-1).
Next up for LCC is a home match vs Tacoma on Friday, October 6, at 6:00 pm.
