Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Devils Win! College Win #1 For Head Coach Joe Chicks

The Lower Columbia women's soccer team had played most opponents tough during this Covid-19 college season. There were some one goal losses and a couple of ties.

Finally, a victory!

The Devils beat perennial NWAC power Tacoma 2-1 on Friday May 7th.  It was the final home game of the season and it was special.

"Give the players credit because Tacoma was putting on the heat throughout the first half but we stayed with it", said coach Chicks.  "We've had losses where we controlled the play but the opponents scored.  Today, we just battled and when the opportunities came we took advantage of it."

Scoreless at the half, LCC broke through at 53' with a Jerika Isaacson goal unassisted.

Isaacson then came up with the assist when Olivia Colgate scored at 64'.

Tacoma didn't quit and they had a chance when Olivia Graziana scored at 82'.  The Titans kept up the pressure but the Devils were able to wade through the three extra minutes to come away with the victory.

Goalkeepers Kyla Pires (first half) and Jade Cox (second half) were outstanding under pressure. TCC out shot the Devils 14-6, but Pires had two saves and Cox five.

Lower Columbia is now 1-4-2 as they get ready to close out the season with three straight road games.  The next action is Tuesday May 11th at Highline, 12 noon start at Starfire.

Prior to the win over Tacoma, LCC honored departing sophomore Presley McClung, who will join the LCC Bachelors program for education.  McClung showed grit and determination to return to this years team after suffering an ACL tear in the fall of 2019.
