Game Recap: Softball |

Sophs Honored Between Highline Sweep

The Lower Columbia College softball team honored six players who will be moving on next season.  Those players made sure their final games at home were good ones.

The Devils dispatched Highline 9-4 and 12-0 to keep the undefeated season alive.  LCC is now 18-0 on the year with two games left on the schedule.

In between the sweep, the six departing sophomores received hugs from family, framed photos and plenty of hugs and well wishes.  The ceremony would be upbeat because the Devils took care of business in the first game.

Jade Behic had just one bad inning but was otherwise masterful in getting her 8th victory of the season (8-0).  Highline got a pair of singles and a walk in the top of the 4th inning before Sierra Edwards hit a grand slam.  Behic just shrugged and allowed only two more singles the rest of the way, a complete game four-hitter.

Behic helped herself with a two-run homer in a seven run second inning.  Saydie Harris hit a two run bomb of her own and it was more than enough for Behic in the circle.

NWAC batting average leader Kinzey Williams (.606) was 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Behic went 3 for 4 with four RBI's.  The Devils pounded out 12 hits.

Harris, Williams, Brittnee Harvill, Taylor Alto, Kaylee Barnum and Karsyn Zaragoza were honored during the ceremony.  Williams and Alto are both in the midst of outstanding seasons and are looking to sign at the next level.  Harris has decided to go on to the real world of real estate.  Harvill is already close to her bachelors degree towards healthcare.  Barnum will be playing at Linfield College and Zaragoza will be playing softball closer to her Boise home at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, OR.

The second game featured more offensive fireworks while Tatum Guzman dominated the T-Birds.  Guzman went five innings shortened by the mercy rule and she allowed just two hits and faced just 16 batters, one over the minimum.

Behic had yet another two run bomb in the second game.  Katelyn McGough smashed a double and drove in three runs.  Williams (Kinzey) had another three hit day.  Maddie Curaming also cleared the bases with a double. Curaming drove in three runs.

Alto drove in a pair of runs with a single.  Harvill had a solid game with two hits and two runs scored.

The departing sophomores have been honored but they are not done.  The Red Devils have two more games to play as they shoot for an undefeated season.  LCC will end the season with two games at Gray Harbor Saturday May 22nd in Aberdeen.  The first pitch is slated for 12 noon.
