Devils And Raiders Tangle In An Epic Match

The two top teams in the NWAC West got together on Thursday May 13th in Lakewood.

Let the record show that Pierce won the match 3-2.

Also let the record show that both teams showed great talent and amazing grit in taking it to a fifth and deciding set.

Pierce won it in set scores of 21-25, 26-24, 25-10, 24-26 and 15-11.

Both teams got off the floor after it appeared the other had come up with a knockout blow.

LCC took the first set and they had a 21-16 lead in the second before Pierce rallied late for the match equalizer.

Tied at one, it appeared Pierce was going to win in a laugher when they won the third set 25-10.

But give these Devils credit. They gutted out a 26-24 victory in the 4th set setting up a first-to-15 fifth set.

LCC came out strong leading 5-0 and 6-2.  But the Raiders didn't get down and they weren't to be denied on this night.

The Devils had many great individual performances.

Kaylee Barnum led the net attack with 13 kills.  Zoe Naugle had nine kills, six blocks and four block assists.

Jayden Foster and Camryn Wilson had eight kills each.  Josie Dew collected seven kills.

Karsyn Zaragoza and Amanda Holm continued to share the setter load with excellence.  Zaragoza had 25 assists with two aces. Holm had 18 assists.

And the incredible play of Emma Nelson was on full display as she had 35 digs including a pancake dig off the back of her hand that was a key point in the 4th set comeback.

Pierce takes the season series 2-1 over LCC.  The Red Devils drop to 9-2 on the season but they will not drop their heads after such a great match.

LCC will honor the departing players on Wednesday May 19th. The final match of the season will be at Myklebust Gym against the Tacoma Titans.  Each LCC player will be allowed two family members to attend the match which begins at 7 pm.
