Wood's Walk Off and Stacy's Homer Lead Devils To A Sweep

The Lower Columbia College baseball team raised its record to 12-2 with a double header sweep of the Green River Gators on Saturday May 1st.

Joel Wood's pinch hit two-run single in the first game triggered the 10-run rule and walked off the Gators 11-1.

In the second game, Ethan Stacy's solo homer was all LCC would need as three LCC pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win.

In the first game, Spencer Andersen went seven innings allowing just four hits to get the complete game victory.

Back from a 14 day Covid-19 protocol quarantine, Drew Steelhammer went 3 for 3 with an RBI.  Also just back from protocol, Grant Sherrod was 2 for 4 including a two-run double.  Grant Henry had a two-run double.

Leading 9-1 in the bottom of the 7th, head coach Eric Lane called on Joel Wood to pinch hit and he came through with the clutch hit to right field ending the game early.

Saturday's game two starter Sam Stuhr worked through a first inning, no-out, bases loaded situation to get two strikeouts and a ground out.  The righty went 3 1/3 innings allowing no runs, one hit and five strikeouts.

Jeter Larson went 2 1/3 no-hit innings and Alex Bratton closed it down in the top of the 7th allowing a hit but nothing else.

Offensively in the nightcap, Ethan Stacy launched a solo homer over the right field fence.  Dylan Jester came through with a two-run double.

A rare occurrence happened in the first inning when Steelhammer hit a long flyball to right center that was caught by Green River.  Daniel Gernon tagged up and scored all the way from second base giving Steelhammer the sacrifice fly RBI.

The two teams will turn around and play another doubleheader on Sunday May 2nd at Hogan Park in Kent.  First pitch is 12:00 pm.  The Devils will start Griffin Henry in the first game and Michael Callia Jr. in the second game.
