Devils Complete The Gator Sweep

The Lower Columbia baseball team got a solid pitching outing in the first game and a bunch of runs in the second game to sweep Green River on Sunday May 2nd at Hogan Park in Kent.

Griffin Henry and Cole Bertram combined on a three-hitter as the Devils beat the Gators 9-0.  Henry went six innings allowing just two hits with two walks and three strikeouts.  Bertram came in and allowed just one hit in three frames with no walks and two strikeouts.  Bertram was credited with the three inning save.

Leading 4-0 after five innings, the Devils broke open the game with four runs in the sixth. The big hit in the innings was Kyle Casperson's two-run single.

Ethan Stacy and Tommy Davis had run scoring singles.  Grant Sherrod and Nic Iliyn had a sacrifice fly each. Daniel Furman had a bases loaded walked for an RBI and Liam Kerr drove in a run with a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

In the second game, LCC scored 10 runs in the last two innings to turn a close game into a blowout.  Leading just 4-3 after five innings, the Devils plated five runs in the sixth and five more in the top of the 7th.

Wild Green River pitching was the key in the sixth and seventh innings. Stacy made the Gators pay with a two-run single but a bulk of the runs were on wild pitches, walks and hit-by-pitches.

Daniel Gernon was 3 for 4 at the plate.  Sherrod drove in three more runs.  Drew Steelhammer was walked three times but also had a hit, two RBI's and two runs scored.

Michael Callia Jr. got the win scattering six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Ryan Pitts shut down a Gator opportunity with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief plus three strikeouts.

Payton Harris closed the door with a clean inning.

The Devils are now 15-2 on the season after taking all four games with Green River.  Next up is a four game set with the Pierce Raiders. The twin bill Saturday will be at Story Field at 12 pm. The action Sunday is at the Puyallup Rec Center, also at 12 pm.
