Devils Hold On To Beat Highline

The Lower Columbia College volleyball team played its home opener on Wednesday April 7th and the fans got their money's worth.

Oh, wait.  There were no fans.

Despite the Covid-19 protocols that have kept the fans away for the time being, the Devils came away with a 3-2 victory over the Highline Thunderbirds.

LCC won the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-17. But Highline came roaring back and equalized the match by taking set three 25-18 and set four 25-23.

When the T-Birds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the deciding set it didn't look good for the home team.  But LCC scored eight straight points, took control and won it.

Zoe Naugle led the way with 12 kills and five blocks.

Camryn Wilson had 10 kills and 11 digs.  Emma Nelson led the Devils with 30 digs.  Karsyn Zaragoza had 19 assists and Amanda Holm had 14 helpers.

Kaylee Barnum came on in the second set and went on a serving jag ending up with six aces.

Rebecca Zenger led the T-Birds with nine kills.

The Devils (2-0) will travel to Lakewood the take on the Pierce Raiders Thursday April 8th at 7 pm.
