Devils Sweep At Pierce, Go 12-0 On The Season

The Lower Columbia softball team got a stern challenge in Puyallup, but came away with a double header sweep over Pierce on Wednesday April 28th.

The Devils held on for dear life to win the opener 6-5 and took the wild nightcap 15-8.

Jade Behic came up with some clutch pitching in the opener. She escaped a one-out, bases loaded jam in the 6th and then got three big outs in the 7th after Pierce had hit a bloop and a blast to make it a one run game.

Behic got the complete victory striking out 10 Raiders.

Katelyn McGough continued her torrid hitting by blasting her 7th homer of the season, a two run bomb to give LCC a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Ada Williams followed with a ringing RBI double and the Devils led 3-0 before Pierce came to bat.

The Raiders came right back with two runs in the bottom of the first before Behic settled in.

Ada Williams added a solo homer in the third before Saydie Harris came up with a clutch RBI single.

Kinzey Williams went 3 for 4 from the leadoff spot.

In game two, the unbeaten Devils found them selves down 7-4 to Pierce after the Raiders scored five runs in the bottom of the 4th inning.

But the Devils refused to go quietly, matching Pierce's five with a five of their own in the top of the 5th. Saydie Harris hit a three run shot to tie the game up.  LCC added two more in the frame to take a 9-7 lead.

Lower Columbia purchased some insurance in the 7th when Katelyn McGough hit yet another two run homer. Taylor Alto smacked a two run single and Maddie Curaming also singled home a run.

Alto also made a great defensive play in the sixth inning diving to snare a line drive and throwing to second to double up the runner.

Tatum Guzman got the win going all seven innings in the second game.

McGough now has eight home runs on the season after slamming two on the day.  Kinzey Williams was 6 for 8 on the day with four runs scored.  Harris was 5 for 7 with six RBI's over the twin bill.

The Devils are now 12-0 on the season as they travel to Highline on Saturday May 1st for a 12 pm double header.
