Henry And Callia Pitch Devils To A Sunday Sweep

The Lower Columbia baseball team got outstanding pitching from Griffin Henry and Michael Callia Jr. in a doubleheader sweep of Centralia Sunday April 25th at Story Field.

Henry went six plus innings in the first game allowing just one run in the Devils 6-1 victory.  The lefty from North Marion High School shutout the Blazers over five innings. A leadoff walk in the 7th meant his day was done.  The walk did come around to score against the Devil bullpen but Henry did a great job to get the win.

The Devils gave Henry an early lead with two manufactured runs in the second inning.  Henry's twin brother Grant Henry had an RBI groundout and Tommy Davis hit a sacrifice fly.  Eric Luchies had an RBI double in the third.  Nic Ilyn added an RBI double in the 6th and then the Devils capped it off in the 7th with an RBI single from Daniel Gernon and an RBI groundout from Alex Schimke.

The second game was a masterpiece by Callia.  His complete seven inning victory took just 1 hour and 14 minutes.  Good thing too because the skies opened up shortly after Callia struck out Jeremy Vierra to end the game.  The sophomore from Kentridge HS was pumping strikes in quick fashion.  He allowed just four hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Gernon supplied all the runs that Callia and the Devils would need.  After Matthew Schwarz hit a single and advanced on an outfield error Gernon stepped to the plate and rode a Nick Geertsen pitch out of the ballpark beyond the Centralia bullpen in left.

Geertsen allowed just four Red Devil hits.

The Red Devils took three of the four games in the weekend series to raise the LCC record to 12-2.  Centralia dropped to 6-8.

Next up for LCC is a home doubleheader against the Green River Gators on Saturday May 1st.  First pitch is at 12 noon.  Green River will then host LCC at 12 noon Sunday May 2nd at Hogan Park in Puyallup.
