It was a Red Devil road doubleheader, but it was played in their home ballpark.
With Centralia's Wheeler Field unable to go due to rain, the Blazers asked to come to Longview and play on the infield turf of Story Field on Saturday April 24th.
It was all LCC in the first game as
Spencer Andersen pitched seven sparkling innings of one-hit ball as the Devils won 10-1.
The second game had a wild finish as Centralia got a walk off, two-run basehit by Nolan Wasson to earn a 7-6 win and a split of the day.
Andersen was outstanding in the first game. He walked the first batter but then settled down and cruised through the Blazer lineup. Andersen went seven innings allowing just a solo homer to Grant Roosma. The lefty from Ridgefield struck out eight and walked just two.
Brody Merritt came in and provided two innings of two-hit, scoreless relief.
Eric Luchies had a big game for LCC. The Victoria BC native hit a two-run shot that went off of the roof of the batting barn estimated at 420 feet. Luchies ended up 2 for 5 with a homer and a double for three RBI's.
Fellow Canadian
Daniel Gernon also hit a homerun, a blue darter in deep left center field. Gernon, the Surrey BC native, was just coming off a two-week Covid-19 protocol quarantine.
LCC shortstop
Matthew Schwarz was 3 for 5 with two RBI's.Â
Tyler Reese had a two run single.Â
Tommy Davis had two hits including a double.
LCC second game starter
Sam Stuhr had to deal with the rain. He walked three and gave up a run in two innings of work, striking out four. But a 45 minute rain delay ended his day.
Aaron Robertson came in and pitched three innings allowing three runs.Â
Kyle Fitzgerald was next and he allowed a run in his inning of work.
The Devil offense was silent through the first six innings. Down 5-1 going to the top of the 7th and final inning, the Devils rallied for five runs to take a 6-5 lead with three outs to go.
Devil closer
Ryan Pitts got two quick outs but then all of a sudden the strikezone became the size of a coffee can (12 oz) allowing the Blazers to draw three walks setting up Wasson's heroics.
Gernon was 2 for 3 in the second game.Â
Ethan Stacy, Reese,
Max Richards and
Ryley Larson all had RBI's.
The Devils are 10-2 on the season. Both Centralia and Lower Columbia return to Story Field for another double header on Sunday April 25th. The first game begins at 12 noon. Gates to Story Field open up at 11:30 am.
