Devils Give The Harbor The First Inning Blues

The Lower Columbia College softball team scored a combined 14 runs in the first inning of both ends of a doubleheader and swept Grays Harbor 10-0 and 13-2 on Saturday April 17th.

LCC scored six runs on six hits in the first inning of the opener. Katelyn McGough started an incredible day at the plate with a two-run double in that first inning uprising. She then hit a solo shot off the top of the scoreboard in left field in the second inning.  McGough was 3 for 3 with two RBIs in game one.

Starting pitcher Jade Behic mowed down the Chokers in order and took a perfect game into the top of the 5th inning. Grays Harbor broke up the perfecto and no-hitter with one out in the frame. Behic ended up with a one-hit shutout with six strike outs and no walks.

The Devils pounded out 10 hits in the first game.

LCC had an even better start in the nightcap, scoring eight runs in the first.

McGough continued her incredible hitting by going 3 for 4 with two homers and five RBIs in the second game.  On the day McGough was 6 for 7 with three homers and seven runs driven in.

Karsyn Zaragoza had a big second game by going 2 for 2 with a two-run opposite field homer and an RBI double. She also started a perfect 8-4-5 relay from right-center field to cut down a GH batter trying to stretch a double to a triple.

The offense backed the pitching of Tatum Guzman who allowed just three hits over 5 innings and no walks. The Chokers hit two solo homers in the second inning, but Guzman bounced back and was solid in the circle.

Taylor Alto had two hits and three steals in the second game. Kinzey Williams had two hits.  Kennedy Williams slammed a two-run double.

The Devils go to 8-0 on the season with the decisive sweep and will next host Centralia in a 12 pm double header on Saturday April 24th.
