Devils Softball Rallies To Beat Blazers

Lower Columbia and Centralia made a move to avoid the forecasted rain on Saturday.  The scheduled doubleheader would be played instead on Friday April 23rd.  As it turned out, there was only one game.

The Centralia team opted not to play the second game after Kerianne Cline injured her wrist in the first game.  Playing this season with nine players, the Blazers didn't have the depth to play on.

The one game that was played was a good one.  The Red Devils rallied from a 6-1 deficit to claim a 12-9 victory.

The big inning for LCC was a six-run sixth.  The big blow was a two-run shot by Maddie Curaming, her first college home run.

Jade Behic went the distance in the circle but she had to grind the whole way against the scrappy Centralia team.

After LCC took a 1-0 lead on an Ada Williams RBi double in the first, the Blazers put up a four-spot in the second.  Grace Hodel hit a two-run dinger in the third and the Devils were down 6-1 and in search of a spark.

A five-hit third got LCC going including RBI hits from Williams, Taylor Alto and Karsyn Zaragoza.

After Nikole Schock of Centralia hit a solo homer in the 5th, the Devils scored again on a Zaragoza hit.  There could have been more, but pinch hitter Mallory Brown's scorcher to left was tracked down and caught by Schock.

That's when LCC broke out with the big sixth inning.  Another big hit in the 11-batter frame was Brittnee Harvill's two-run single up the middle.

The Blazers wouldn't quit as Schock hit another longball in the top of the 7th to make it interesting, but Behic settled down and got the final outs.

LCC remains unbeaten on the season at 9-0.  The team will return to action Wednesday April 28th at Pierce. The 4:00 pm twinbill will be played at the Heritage Complex in Puyallup.
