The Lower Columbia baseball team rallied for a big first game victory over Tacoma then took advantage of TCC wildness in the nightcap to get a sweep in an NWAC double header at Story Field on April 17th.
LCC won the first game 6-5 and took the second tilt 13-3.
Down 4-1 in the first game, the Red Devils scored five runs in the fifth helped by a two base error by the Titans. Tacoma starter Kyle Dunning was rather stunning until he ran into trouble in the fateful fifth. He struck out the first two batters he faced in the frame and then the wheels fell off when the Devils came up with three straight singles, the big error and then a large RBI hit by
Grant Henry.
Up 6-4, the Devils turned it over to the bullpen and
Aaron Robertson went 2 2/3 innings allowing just one hit and one run to get the victory.Â
Ryan Pitts closed it out with two innings of one-hit ball to get the save.
Starter
Spencer Andersen went 4 1/3 giving up three earned runs and a no-decision.
Matthew Schwarz had three RBi's without a basehit in the game.Â
Ethan Stacy went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI.
The second game was all about Tacoma wildness on the mound. The Titans walked 12 batters and had seven HBP.
Dylan jester had an RBI single and Schwarz hit an RBI double, but the bulk of the scoring damage came from Tacoma's ineffectiveness on the mound. LCC had just four hits in the ballgame.
Sam Stuhr got the win by going five innings giving up three runs. He struck out five and also issued four walks.
With the sweep, the Devils go to 7-1 in the West. Tacoma drops to 5-3. The Devils host the Grays Harbor Chokers in a 12 pm doouble header on Sunday April 18th.
