Tukwila, WA Wednesday October 27, 2021 -- The Highline Thunderbirds showed why they will be going to the post season as a legitimate contender.
The T-Birds defeated the Red Devils 6-0 at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila.
Highline scored early and often and took a 6-0 lead into halftime. Give the Devils credit as they did not quit and kept the score as it was with a 0-0 second half.
Starting goal keeper
Jade Cox was injured during the T-Birds second goal and came out of the game.
Olivia Hare came in for the remainder of the half and
Kyla Pires played well in goal in the second half including a save on a penalty kick.
"It was definitely a tough one", said LCC head coach
Joe Chicks. "I thought we did a good job controlling the midfield but Highline has some dangerous players who can catch you on the counter attack and that's what they did today."
LCC lost to the T-Birds 2-0 in the first meeting of the season, but Highline came out firing on this day. Highline scored six goals on just seven shots on goal.
Coach Chicks lauded
Kati Waggoner,
Abby Schroeder and
Libby Brown for working well to provide most of the LCC scoring chances.
Lower Columbia led in corner kicks 3-1.
"We have to be better and I'm confident we can finish the regular season strong this Saturday at Tacoma."
The Devils drop to 5-5-1 and are still alive for one of the three playoff spots.
The match at TCC Saturday gets underway at 12 noon.
