Devils Enjoy Soph Night With An Easy Win Over Pierce

All five Red Devils sophomores were in the starting line-up for Sophomore Night.  What really made it special is that LCC's Bobbi Mott was out on the Mylebust Gym floor playing for the first time and the final time all at once.

Mott, the talented player from Valdez, Alaska suffered a season ending knee injury during the Devils road trip to Arizona last season.  Mott spent the entire off-season rehabbing from the ACL tear and came back ready to play in the early season tournament at Linn-Benton.  It happened again, another ACL injury ending her college basketball career.  So it was special when Mott was in the starting lineup and the Devils ran a play to get her a non-contact three-point shot off.  Although the shot was no good and Mott immediately came out of the game to applause, her impact was felt at LCC.  Mott is a 4.0 student who never missed a practice and was always on hand to show support for her teammates.  She will go down as one of the great Red Devils where folks never got to see her full potential as a basketball player. They did get to see her full potential as a person.

The sophomores were honored with family and friends prior to the game and then they went out and scored a combined 51 of the Red Devils points in an 86-61 victory over the Pierce Raiders.

Cherita Daugherty had an outstanding game on the home floor for the last time.  Daugherty scored 17 points with six rebounds and four steals.  Madison Mosier was also very good in her final home game as she had 15 points, four assists and three steals.

Madeline Jacobson ended her Myklebust Gym run with an outstanding double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks.  Melenaite Kata was also very solid before the home fans for a final time as she had seven points and five rebounds.

The nine freshman were more than willing to allow the sophomores their night to shine.  But the freshy's all played well including 14 points from Ally Harman on 4 for 5 shooting from three-point range.

It was a feel-good night all around.

The Devils will close out the regular season Wednesday night at Tacoma.  The Devils are locked into the number two seed from the West into the NWAC championship tournament. Tacoma has clinched the number three seed.  It should be a good test for the Devils before they put full sights on the NWAC's.
