Edmonds Closes Strong To Outlast The Devils

If Lower Columbia plays Edmonds in volleyball again this season, it will be at the NWAC Championships in Tacoma.

Expect the match to be close if it happens.

The Devils and Tritons met for the fifth time this season and Edmonds came away with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday September 11th.

Lower Columbia felt they let this one get away.

Leading by eight early in the first set, LCC couldn't close the deal and the Tritons rallied for a 26-24 win.  The Devils then dominated the second and third sets winning 25-15 and 25-9.  The Tritons then forced the deciding set by winning set four 25-20.  Edmonds capped off the comeback with a 15-7 win the fifth set.

"Our passing broke down in the last two sets and then when we got that shored up, our hitters stopped being aggressive", said head coach Carri Smith.

"We've played Edmonds so many times and battled back-and-fourth that it was not surprising we went five sets", according to Smith.  "We were in a good position to get it done in four but give Edmonds credit for staying aggressive in the last game."

Zoe Naugle led the LCC attack with 13 kills.  Camryn Wilson and Kiana Scott had nine kills each.

Setter Karsyn Zaragoza 41 assists and 13 digs.  Emma Nelson, who was earlier named the NWAC Defensive Player of the Week, had 21 digs.

The Devils will play in the NWAC Cross Over Tournament in Spokane this weekend.  "We plan to get more players into the action because we are going to need everybody ready to go for the league season", said Smith.

After the action in Spokane, the Devils have one more non league match against the Olympic Rangers Wednesday September 18th. The match is at Myklebust Gym beginning at 5 pm.
