The competition was fierce and the Devils did well as they opened the 2019 volleyball season at the NWAC Fall Festival in Springfield, Oregon on August 24-25.
Matched up against the elite of the NWAC, Lower Columbia went 3-3 in the first competitive weekend of the season.
"We had some very competitive and promising moments against very good programs", according to head coach
Carri Smith. "We used many different lineups and the weekend brought to the forefront the areas we need to make progress in. It was overall a good start."
The Devils went 3-1 on Saturday August 24th including victories over Chemeketa 2-0, Edmonds 2-1 and Shoreline 2-0. Walla Walla defeated the Devils 2-0 on Saturday.
Sunday's action pitted LCC against Linn Benton and Spokane. The Devils dropped both matches 2-0 putting the overall record in the Fesitval at 3-3.
Standouts for LCC included
Kiana Scott who led the net attack with 52 kills over the six matches.Â
Ashlynn Cantwell had 41 kills, six aces and 34 digs.
Karsyn Zaragoza led the assist category with 86. Fellow freshman
Camryn Wilson had 72 assists.Â
Paige Moorcroft had 30 kills and six blocks.Â
Emma Nelson had 42 digs.
Zoe Naugle led the team with five blocks.
The Devils open up the home schedule with a match against the Clackamas Cougars on Wednesday August 28th. The action at Myklebust Gym begins at 7:00 pm.
