Devil Power On Display in Sweep Of Clark

Lunt rhymes with bunt.

But that is the only connection between the two because LCC catcher Lauren Lunt put on a power display in the Red Devils doubleheader sweep at Clark on Saturday May 4th.

Lunt hit a two run shot in the first game, a 7-5 LCC victory. She then followed that up with a three homer and a solo shot in the second game won by Lower Columbia 10-6.

The sophomore from Port Angeles had seven RBI's on the day as LCC raised its South Region record to 15-9.  Lunt now has nine homers and a team leading 43 RBI's.

Clark had a 1-0 lead after three innings in Saturday's opener when LCC scored three times in the 4th highlighted by an RBI double from Saydie Harris.

The Devils added two more in the 5th when Valeti Fifita smacked an RBI single followed by a Lunt run scoring double.

Lunt provided the insurance LCC needed when she hit a two-run long ball in the top of the 7th.

Trinity Naugle got the victory allowing three runs in six innings.  Nizhoni Wheeler pitched the final inning for the save.

Kinzey Williams had two hits and scored two runs. Skylar Hunter also had two base hits.

In the second game, LCC snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the 4th on Lunt's three-run blast.  Allie Hall added a solo shot in the 4th.  Then Lunt followed that up with another homer in the 5th.

Up just 5-4 going into the top of the 7th, LCC exploded for five runs.  LCC scored two unearned runs on Clark errors then Ellie Conley doubled in a pair.  Tera Geimer then capped off the big frame with an RBI single.

Wheeler got the win by going five innings allowing five hits.  Naugle closed it out with two innings of three-hit ball.

Fifita went 3 for 5. Lunt had three hits and four RBI's.

The Devils have four more games to close out the regular season.  LCC will travel to Salem to play Chemeketa on Tuesday May 7th at 3 pm.  The Red Devil sophomores will then be honored on Sophomore Day Friday May 10th against Southwestern Oregon at 3 pm.  It's the final home games of the season before the team is off to Spokane for the NWAC tournament May 17-20.
