Game Recap: Softball |

Wild South Split In Oregon City

The two most storied programs in NWAC softball history got together for a wild and crazy doubleheader that featured 32 runs and 46 hits.  It ended up a split.

Clackamas hit three, 3-run homers in the opener and held on to edge Lower Columbia 10-9.  The Devils came back in the second game and won 9-4.

The afternoon began with LCC jumping out to a 2-0 lead when Lauren Lunt hit a first inning two-run homer.  But the Cougars came right back with a three run homer in the first, another three run shot in the second and another three run longball in the fourth.

Down 10-5 after four frames, LCC came back to get within two runs on homers by Sarah Potwin and Allie HallKinzey Williams RBI double made it a one run game but the Devils were turned away in the 7th.

Valeti Fifita was 3 for 4.  Sophia Parsons went 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Tera Geimer, playing with a heavy heart after the passing of her grandfather, was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Trinity Naugle took the loss, giving up 10 runs and 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings. A tight strike zone did not help.  Nizhoni Wheeler came on and allowed no runs and just two hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

The first inning of the nightcap saw both teams score three runs.  LCC jumped on top when Potwin hit a two-run shot, her second homer of the day.  Clackamas came back to tie it up with two RBI singles and a bases loaded hit by pitch.

The third inning was key as LCC got a solo homer from Lunt, her second dinger of the day.  Then Hall came through with another homer, a three run blast that turned out to be the big hit of the game.

The Devils added some insurance in the 6th when Ellie Conely slapped an RBI double and then scored on the back end of a double steal.

Wheeler went the distance, allowing four runs and scattering 11 hits.

The Devils are 13-9 in the South, tied with Clackamas.  LCC has the tiebreaker with the Cougars after taking three of the four games.  The Devils are 22-11 overall.

Lower Columbia will be in Vancouver on Saturday May 4th for a double header with the Clark Penguins.  The action begins at 12:00 pm.
